WEI-XIONG WANG


 

Is the Principal Clarinetist at the Albany Symphony Orchestra and is the winner of several international competitions, including first prize in the 2010 AudiMozart Woodwind Competition, Bolzano, Italy, 2014 Juilliard Concerto Competition and the 2011 International Crescendo Award in Tulsa, Oklahoma. 

In 2016-2017 season, Weixiong has played with the Orpheus Chamber Orchestra, Solisti Ensemble and has played recital at New York City Harvard Club. Weixiong also toured as a soloist in collaboration with Mark Morris Dance Company in New York and Seattle, world premiering Weber Clarinet Grand Duo, Choreographed by Mark Morris. In 2014, He appeared as a soloist with the Juilliard Orchestra in collaboration with the Juilliard Dance, Performing Mozart Clarinet Concerto in Jay Sharp Theater, Lincoln Center, conducted by Karina Canellakis and Choreographed by Lar Lubovitch. Weixiong also appeared as soloist with the Tulsa Signature Symphony in 2012. Mr. Wang performed the Mozart Clarinet Concerto with the Chamber Orchestra of Bolzano in Italy, and he toured as a soloist with the Salzburg Youth Orchestra across Italy presented by the World Mozart Association. After winning First Prize at the United State Army Band Young Artist Competition, Mr. Wang performed the Weber 2nd Clarinet Concerto with the U.S Army Pershing’s Own band in Avery Fisher Hall, and was awarded the Young Artist Medal by the United States Army General. As First Prize winner of the New York Lawyer's Orchestra Young Artist Competition, he performed the Weber 1st Clarinet Concerto under the baton of David Bernard at Fordham University. In 2005, Mr. Wang won his first award in United States at the 2005 Friday Woodmere Woodwind Competition, and his recording of the winner’s recital was broadcast live on Classical Music Radio WQXR-New York. He also won the Juilliard Pre-College Woodwind Competition in 2005. 

Weixiong Wang received his first honor at the age of 10, becoming the youngest prize- winner at the Second China International Clarinet Competition. Two years later, he was awarded second prize at the 2003 Hong Kong International Woodwind Competition. Mr. Wang was featured in a 2007 New York Times interview about the increase of Chinese musicians in the west.

 

As a music producer and Engineer, Weixiong is the Owner and Chief Engineer of Skillman Music - a prime recording studio, record label and artist management company located in New York City. Over the years, Weixiong has produced or recorded for labels include Sony, Naxos, Wind Record, MSR etc. Artists Weixiong has worked with include as Tandun, Midori Goto, Lang lang, Attacca Quartet, Calidore Quartet, Verona Quartet, Kim Laskowski, Philippe Quint, Carol Wincenc Zuo Zhang, Bomsori Kim, Louis Schewizgebel..etc
